Goodspeed

   'Goodspeed' is English: from the expression ‘God speed (you)’; a wish for success for one setting out on an enterprise, presumably applied as a nickname for someone who habitually used this expression.
   The family was first found in Yorkshire where they held a family seat from ancient times. The Coat of Arms is a red shield with a gold chevron between three silver lions rampant.
   Our lineage to this family can be traced to BENNETT GOODSPEED, born in 1475 in Wingrave, Buckinghamshire, England. Was taxed 18d on goods valued a 3 li, in the subsidy of 1524-25. (SOURCE: This Family of Parker-Whittier, by Parker, page 25). Bennett married ALICE (?), who was born about 1477 in England.
   His son, WILLIAM GOODSPEED was born @ 1501 in Wingrave, Buckinghamshire, England. He died about 1535 in Wingrave. William married ANNA on 1524 in Wingrave, Buckinghamshire, England. Anna's last name is unknown, but she was born about 1505 in Wingrave, Buckinghamshire, England. She died in October of 1558 and was buried on the 4th of October, 1558, in Wingrave.
   Their son, JOHN GOODSPEED, was born between 1524/1527 in Wingrave, Buckinghamshire, England. He died on the 20th of January in 1602/1603 in Wingrave. John married ELIZABETH TWEED on 1552/1554 in Wingrave. Elizabeth or "Eliza" was born about 1530.
   Their daughter, MARGARET GOODSPEED, was born on the 16th of August, 1556, in Wingrave. Margaret married NICHOLAS PUTNAM (b. @ 1540/1554 in Wingrave, Bucks Co., England) on 30 Jan/Jul 1577 in Wingrave, Bucks, England. He died on the 27th of September, 1598, in Wingrave. She died on the 8th of January, 1619, also in Wingrave. They had the following children:
