Walters Family Genealogy

Walters
"Walters" is English and German: a patronymic from Walter, a Germanic personal name composed of the elements wald (‘rule’) + heri, hari (‘army’). The personal name was introduced into England from France by the Normans in the form Walt(i)er, Waut(i)er. The English Coat of Arms is gold with a bend between three boars heads. The Crest features a stork drinking out of a welk shell.
A family with this surname was first found in Cambridgeshire where they held a family seat from early times as Lords of the manor or Crowhurst. Some of the first American settlers of this name were: William Walters, a fisherman, who settled in Trinity, Newfoundland, in 1757; and Casper Walter from England, who settled in New York in 1709 with his wife and nine children.
Our lineage to this family can be traced to BETSY WALTERS, who married ELNATHAN SANDERSON (1777 - 1854) on February 12, 1801. They had nine children: Betsy (b. 1802), DAVID (b. 1804), Julia (b. 1806), Edward W. (b. 1809), Marvin (b. 1811), Sherman Stephanson (b. 1814), Delana (b. 1817), Amanda (b. 1819), and Silvia J. Sanderson (b. 1822). Very little has been recorded of this family.
