Berger

   The Berger surname was first found in the northern provinces which would later form Prussia, where the name came from humble beginnings—but gained a significant reputation for its contribution to the emerging mediaeval society.
   It's a topographic name for someone who lived in the mountains or hills. It is found as a surname throughout central and eastern Europe, either as a surname of German origin or as a German translation of a topographic name with similar meaning, for example the Slovenian Gricar, Hribar, Gorjan or Gorjanc.
   Our lineage traces back to AGATHA BERGER (d. 22 Jan 1716) of in Oberwiehl, Baden, Gemany. She married NICHOLAS LUTTIN (1660 - 1745).
   Agatha and Nicholas had a daughter, MARIA LUTTE (27 July 1689 - 1735) of Oberwiehl, who married CASPAR TRÖNDLE (08 Jan 1687/88 - 07 Sep 1756), in Rotzel, Baden.
   Agatha died on the 22nd of January, 1715/1716. Nicholas then married a woman named MARIA DIETHALM on the 7th of April in 1718 , and then had nine more kids. Nicholas died on the 25th of May in 1745.
